They have been extremely helpful because I do not know wherelse to find backing tracks. I have been providedw with a lifetime of backing tracks!

Hi, I received this incredibly useful and beneficial book about a month ago. Unfortunately, I haven’t had the time to really sit down and study the book and play along yet. I’m positive in the mere future, I will and that I’ll also wreak the benefits from this well laid out and thought provoking book. Thank you James for all your hard work and dedication to helping us bassists!
As a bassist with a deep love for blues, I can confidently say this book is one of the best resources I’ve come across for learning blues bass guitar. It’s thoughtfully structured, gradually building skills while keeping the content engaging and inspiring. Whether you’re a beginner with a basic understanding of the instrument or a more experienced player looking to refine your blues chops, this book delivers.
What truly sets it apart is its focus on feel, groove, and personal expression — the soul of blues music. Each chapter includes well-crafted musical examples that are not only educational but genuinely fun to play. The technical explanations are clear without being overwhelming, and the exercises help develop both technique and musicality.
If you’re serious about learning blues bass and want a book that captures the heart of the genre while helping you grow as a musician, this is an absolute must-have. Highly recommended!
Very good book Great 👍
Hi. Really enjoying working through this. Making me think and the work on the chords is tying in with other things I’m learning. It’s taking a while though. And only up to half speed on most of this excercises. I’d be interested to see how other students found getting up to the speeds James was Simon if at for us. Maybe it would help to say what is a beginner, intermediate and advanced speed.
Great book, clear and easy to follow
The beginning may seem like it's "so basic I don't need to do the exercises" but do them anyway. The vertical and horizontal is a must, but it doesn't take much effort and it puts everything else together. By the end of the book, I was moving all over the neck - something I've not been able to do.
It's also a great supplement to the fretboard elevation course, but can stand alone; you'll get a lot out of it.
Definitely recommended!
This book certainly took me by surprise - you can't just read it, you have to work through it, but it's worth it. It definitely got me out of my "fifth fret and below" playing.
The course is laid out in small bits, but some things do take work, but it's all progress - the rest of the material falls into place.
By the end of the course, you're cruising all over the neck. :)
I admit that I can be quite the slow learner, so I'll be going through it again, but I was amazed to see that it was possible to be able to move around. For years, I couldn't get very far. Now, to repeat and make it stick. :)
A simple and easy to understand format to create impactful basslines without getting tied up in theory.
very helpful . allows you to be more creative ..
I think this is a great album for learning new keys and training
Really a good tool to learn bass playing
