Condensed knowledge without unnecessary flourishes

Familiar things in a book that a beginner will appreciate having collected, of course they can be found for free on the internet if you know what to search. I never understood Chapter 10 and I didn't find any solution on ebassguitar.com/theory which referenced on each chapter. Small? Yes it is, although this could be fixed with more developed examples. Expensive? You can say that, if you don't respect the effort someone took to write it. Would I recommend it? If I would like the contents collected, Yes.

Soild information, easy to follow

This is a well thought out book for bassists. He does a great job of explaining the How and Why of music theory as it can apply to bass guitar players. I'm glad I read it.

I don't know why the chapters are ordered the way they are as it seems counterintuitive. However, the author has implemented the KISS method and distilled large concepts into a very concise overview that is highly practical. Too many books I've read go way into theory. This is fine in later chapters but this is essentially giving you what you need to know now woth room for growth later. This definitely helped me feel a bit more confident in my path.

Solid foundation

My biggest disappointment with the music tuition I received growing up was the apparent failure of theory to cross over into practice. While I stormed ahead in theory, my playing lagged behind, so there was rarely any practical application of 90% of what I learned. This book focuses on the basic elements you need to understand to start with, which you can use as a base to build on and extend from. Much of it was revision for me, but the focus clarified some things I’d never really grasped properly due to my being confused, either by more advanced concepts that weren’t yet relevant, or by sheer volume of information. If it’s new to you, theory can seem overwhelming to start with, but it will give you a language to understand what you hear and a way to communicate with other musicians.

Cuts out unnecessary theory.

Supplement a course I am taking from the same author. Just to fill any gaps in my knowledge (surprising ones I wasn't expecting!) Well written and presented.
